How to Sell Social Media to Your Boss – Chris Brogan

James Governor introduced me to the Chris Brogan’s blog and I was immediately drawn to the post, Twelve Ways to Sell Social Media to Your Boss. First, there was a great shot of 50s boss at his cluttered desk. Then there were the ideas. The eleven of the twelve related to market facing issues and led with “Social media tools like blogging, social networks, and social bookmarking are more effective in reaching the millions online than a traditional website.” My favorite was, “Social networks are now used frequently by your customers, your prospects, and your competitors. Connect with people, learn their business needs, and respond more simply and flexibly.”

The one internal suggestion was, “social media tools can be used to help with status information, training, project collaboration. Most tools like blogs, twitter-clones like identi.ca, etc can be set up internally instead of used on the public web, for more privacy.”

Overall, it is great list for market facing issues but social media can also help unclutter the boss’s desk, as well as his or her email inbox. It can also help bosses keep track of all the initiatives under their command.
