This Friday’s infographic compares business blogging with Facebook and builds a case as to why blogging is the better marketing strategy. 

Now I’m a HUGE Facebook fan myself (especially with the new Timeline!) but if you’re not blogging, you’re missing out on some important business benefits! In addition trying to build your own brand on someone else’s territory is always risky.

Going by my own experience, here are 10 reasons why business blogging is better than Facebook:

Patricia, its an interesting piece. I agree with you that having a hub for the valuable content that business entity creates is essential, resting everything on a hired assets like facebook is too much of a dependence. Having said that I would still not select one against the other - when planning a communication strategy and distribution plan for my clients I'd say focusing on a effective communication mix would be essential that needs to include facebook along with blogging (forming a hub of your content) - after all after delivering an experience to target audience on facebook i would eventually want to migrate them to my own dominion as a business entity. This is where I find your proposition to form a content hub is vital.

ShahzebKhan makes a really good point.  And I'm not entirely convinced that a blog is for everyone.  If they can't invest the time to create a good flow of meaningful content, it goes stale pretty fast.  I've been wondering about Facebook notes as a way of posting longer blog-post like pieces, especially when I see we can ad pictures, customize fonts, etc. It seems like a good solution for a brand that can't commit to writing blog posts very often

Really good points. I have to agree. As a new member to the blogging community, I have seen increased exposure and more valuable leads than by simly using FB and Twitter. The great thing about blogging, as me mentioned in your article is that you have control. One great example is the use of google analytics that I have encoded in my blog. Yes there are several ways to keep track of traffic on FB but I think google analytics is more defined and allows you to better strategize on your marketing strategies. Thanks for the info.

I agree that it's not an either/or proposition, but I think the infographic helps put the alternatives in perspective and demonstrates that blogging is more powerful than many people realize. Blogging has i's place ..Absolutely! but you can't dispute it's reach and effectiveness for branding..  900 Million users and    Personally I like Facebook: better I liked the fact that not only can you target and get your message out in front of customers locally or demographically but because we also know the things that people like and the things that they talk about in their interest we can target them psychographicly if you know what I mean.  I like that Facebook allows you to interact with a wide group of people that are already interested in your product or service..  and you get to be infront of people a LOT longer than in a blog post . So I say from a business standpoint, I think Facebook has a much better way to help brand your business, and create a buzz to drive almost instantaneous traffic..

Great information, Patricia. I've been blogging since 2006 and also created blogs for two nonprofits. I left the last one and the last thing I told the CEO was to NOT let the blog die. They are putting a lot into Facebook but they haven't updated the blog since I left. Big mistake in the long run. Facebook is fine and should play a part, but a social media strategy should always revolve around the blog.
