When Google introduced their new algorithm, Hummingbird, the way we, as a business use social media has changed. You may be missing out on important tricks that could help you drive more traffic to your website. Want to improve your social media to benefit your website? Keep reading.

1. Social Media Contests

Social media is where consumers will come to find out more about your business and get excited about your products. The best way to get people talking about your business is to give something away in the form of a contest. If you have a valuable prize up for grabs, you will find more people noticing your business.

To get the best traffic uptake, make sure the contest links to your website.

2. In-App Searches

Be mindful that Google is no the only search engine consumers will use to find your business. The likes of Facebook and Twitter have their own respective search functionality that can help drive traffic to your website.

Make sure you use the search terms on social that you want buyers to associate with your company and you will show up higher in in-app searches too.

3. Search Engine Ranking

The way Google have changed the way they rank your business may see your Facebook page appear above your actual website address. This may be the same for all other social networks. You might be missing out on a lot of traffic if you are not using your keywords in your “About Us” section on your website.

5. Google Author Rank

Google loves quality content. The better your content is, the more prominent an author Google will rank you. Link content you write to your Google+ account so that Google knows you are a real person. Trust is important to your consumers and now it is just as important to Google.

6. Search Query Volume

Social media is not just for engagement, you can also boost the number of searches for your site through your social networking. Share your best content based on what your consumers want to hear about on social media and you will see a higher number of searches for your business.

7. Ranking by Keywords

If you use too many keywords, Google won’t be able to decipher which ones are the most relevant to your business and on the other hand, if you are sparse with your keywords, Google also won’t know how to rank you. Make sure the most important search terms show up in your profiles for your social media accounts.

8. Social Sharing Builds Links

Sharing a link to your site on your social network will build your Google Index. The more links you have to your site, the better Google will index your business based on your keywords as you will be considered a quality source of information.

9. Geotagging

As much as you want to reach as many people as possible, don’t forget how important it is to reach local audiences. Include your geographic location on all of your social accounts so Google know exactly where you are based.

10. Higher Engagement = Better Traffic

Once you have built your social following, you must engage. Just sharing valuable information will only get you so far... You need to have a two-way conversations with your followers so that they can see you are there should they have any questions about your business.
