Today's major social networks barely existed ten years ago, and early mainstays like Friendster and MySpace hardly resemble their former selves. And a decade later, we are Liking, Tweeting, Pinning, Plussing, and following more than ever. Herewith, an illustrated look at the biggest developments, players and payouts of social media's recent past.

Feb. 2004 thefacebook.com launched, July 2006 Twitter started its journey, June 2011 Google launched its own social network Google+, we spent 121.1 Billion minutes on social networking sites, LinkedIn is the only network where 50 to 64 years-olds (24 percent) use more than 18 - 29 years-olds (15 percent). Feb 2014 Facebook buys WhatsApp for $19 Billion.

    Very interesting infograph. I think the most interesting part is that Katy Perry has more Twitter social media followers than our own President. Makes me want to follow her just to see what valuable content she must be creating to attract all of these follows.
