It's October which means Autumn is officially upon us and it's time to start getting ready for sluggish mornings, extra layers and limited time outdoors.
Interestingly enough, these very conditions happen to be extremely conducive to blogging as there are fewer reasons to be seduced outside into the sunshine.
Fall is the perfect time to put your blog into high gear and start packing more into your editorial calendar.
Not sure where to start? I've got 4 ways for your blog to get the most out of the cooler weather:
1) Double your current posting frequency
It's getting darker earlier, which means no more late night barbecues or sultry walks in the park. Chances are you'll soon be rushing home after work to get out of the chill.
So what are you going to do with all this extra time? Write twice as much!
Managed to churn out two posts a week while the sun was out? Be prepared to double it now that you've got nothing better to do than run up your Netflix account or binge on box sets.
2) Research future blog topics
There's no such thing as too much planning.
Free yourself from spending next summer at your desk trying to come up with ideas for your blog and get all the dirty work done now when you have every reason to stay indoors.
Take a chilly afternoon to brainstorm a list of potential blog ideas or social media posts to tuck away and pull out when the weather's right.
3) Patch up the holes in your blog
Neglecting a certain social media channel? Been meaning to update your lead magnet? Or simply getting a bit slack with your tagging?
Now that you don't have any more excuses to be out, start catching up on those things you meant to do during the summer but pushed aside to accommodate that last minute camping trip or beach-side getaway.
Take advantage of the downtime to work on your blogging goals for next year or tweak the existing goals you may already have for your site.
4) Enjoy the process
If there ever was such a thing as an ideal blogging season, this time of year would be it. There's something inherently calm and introspective about darker days and colder weather.
Sit down with a hot mug of coffee and enjoy the solitude of shutting yourself indoors with a good soundtrack and a list of great blog post ideas to sink your teeth into.
