Great article, I am actually on the other side and looking into taking my skills with social media and becoming a social media manager myself but used your article as a reference as to what businesses should look for in one. I might like to add something, promotions....a very good Social Media Manager must know how to reach new visitors as much as they can to help the business grow and be seen. When it comes to the big ones like Facebook and so on there is a bit of a struggle to get word out there and a good Manager will have to work within the rules and guidelines but be very proactive to reach an audience relevant to the services a company would like to be reached publicly. I run a few personal pages on all the social networks and let me tell you some days you can reach a horde of people and others its a major hassle to reach even one, that Manager needs to have some serious people skills and make sure they are not only running the show on the pages they are working but also be consistant about helping that business grow. Awesome article, bookmarked it as I research how to break into Social Media Management positions myself.

Great tips! There's much more to being a social media manager than just posting a quick note on Facebook or Twitter. Hiring someone who is experienced with social media strategies and can create great content for your website is very important.
