I've noticed an interesting new trend on the Internet which the more "mature" bloggers seem to be gravitating to. While I'm not sure an official name has been given to it, I'm going to call it Autopost syndication. This practice is when a blogger joins a community or online service which will take their feed of choice (usually their own personal blog) and repost it in the community. Some of the Social Media examples which come to mind include Facebook Notes and Ning Communities. I discovered another interesting one today called Social Media Today which has many familiar faces and bloggers I have grown to respect. "Wow!", I thought. Do these guys have the time to "contribute" to this service voluntarily as well? Nah. Having another closer look I saw it once again was simply another form of Autopost syndication at play. Oh well.
While it may appear I am somehow against this type of posting, the exact opposite is true. For the less known bloggers (and well the known ones) it does give yet another excellent venue to share content. The issue I do have though is my whole blog at pacificIT really shouldn't be reposted in something like Social Media Today. Everyday I have Notes and Links which simply are aggregates of my Tweeting, bookmarking and other online activities. Hardly the types of articles I would like to syndicate. So, what I have decided to do is to try to share only ONE category marked as Syndicated which will feed into these services (WordPress allows you to create a feed from a category). Kinda nifty, I think.
Just another one of these little experiments in the ongoing quest to share information in the social media world. All good.
