Building a Blog Following the Jeff Bullas Way -- A Book Review
Posted on September 15th 2012
“Writing is sometimes the easy part. The real secret is learning how to use social media marketing and email marketing to promote your blog~ Jeff Bullas (Sept. 18, 2011)
Most of us who have started a blog, know how challenging, exciting, terrifying, and lonely it can be. Putting yourself out there article after article (after article, after article . . .) can be a difficult and humbling experience.
Finding successful bloggers to follow so that we can learn from their example, gain inspiration from their success, (and have good content to post on twitter) is a normal part of the process for most of us.
For me, Jeff Bullas was one of those bloggers that I found early and followed closely (still do today). If you’ve been around social media for any length of time, you’re probably already familiar with Jeff’s work. He posts new articles 5 days a week, and manages to remain very focused on social media topics.
I was so impressed with his blog that I decided that it would be a good idea to interview him and then write about it. So last September, I contacted him – he agreed to the interview – and I sent him a list of questions. What I found out shocked me – I am terrible at interviewing – I ask boring, boring questions – so that article never materialized.
But I did get the quote at the beginning of this article, and I also found that we have quite a lot in common:
- we started in social media and blogging at about the same time
- neither of us is American (he is Australian, I am Canadian)
- we were both teachers in our former lives
- both grew up water skiing
- both enjoy cycling
- and our blogs . . . well, . . .no . . . I guess that’s about it.
Blogging the Smart Way – How to Create and Market a Killer Blog with Social Media (July, 2012 )
“If you are a bit unsure (about blogging), just start – the road will become clearer and the path brighter and you will discover more about yourself and others.” ~ Jeff Bullas, Blogging the Smart Way – How to Create and Market a Killer Blog with Social Media(July, 2012)
In this book, Jeff shares his passion for social media, his formula for writing sharable blogs, and his secrets to using social media to build a blog following.
Jeff covers getting started, effective blog structure, and finding content, but it is in the “how to build a blog following” that this book really shines – his social media marketing tips and strategies emphasizing Twitter and Facebook are specific, simple, actionable – and really work!
I don’t want to give away the ending, but I would highly recommend this book for anyone interested in building a blog – it is easy to read, interesting, and the strategies outlined in it are very effective!
It can be downloaded from Amazon (not an affiliate link).
Your turn: Have you read this book yet? What are your thoughts on it? Are there other blogging books that you’d recommend?
As always, comments and questions are welcomed and appreciated
