Facebook for your mobile device can be one of the ultimate time sucks. Your mom commented on your post, so you have to reply to her. Your friend updated their profile picture, so...you...must...comment.
Then you scroll. And scroll. And scroll, in hope your timeline magically updates with more content.
Yet, all of this time dedicated to consuming and interacting social content, requires something we all tend to take for granted. Fast, reliable, affordable data.
But what do you do if you have no guarantee of fast, reliable affordable data? As in, say, most of the developing world.
If you're Facebook, you introduce Facebook Lite.-a slimmed down version of their mobile app most of us currently experience.
It uses less data and is currently only available within the Google Play store. Facebook Lite also works across 2G and other low-to-no network areas.
Facebook Head-Honcho Mark Zuckerberg has made many statements about bringing the Internet to developing worlds, and Facebook Lite (along with Internet.org) looks to accomplish this idea.
Of course, Facebook looks to continue to expand its presence globally. As Asia and Africa contain some of Facebook's fastest growing markets, it makes sense the social network would support individuals in less-connected areas around these markets.
