Facebook is testing a new emoticon and status action feature, so soon it will be easy to express the details of what you are doing and feeling to your Friends.
The new feature allows people to add actions and emoticons to their status, including things like:
- "Feeling..."
- "Reading..."
- "Watching..."
- "Listening to..."
- "Drinking...
- "Eating..."
People can tag a corresponding page and emoticon to match. These metadata or "Status Actions" as I'll call it, can be used two ways:
- As a stand-alone update:
- As context/mood metadata:
You can also modify the emoticon to one of various preselected options:
This feature isn't available to all users and Facebook hasn't released an official comment, leaving us to believe that it is still in testing and not an approved addition to Facebook. Here are some screenshots:
