Good article - made me chuckle. I'm not sure I'd call the Waitrose example a disaster, as actually the comments received were all quite joviel, and actually only served to highlight Waitrose as a high end, quality option - which is what it is.
I suspect it wasn't their intent and so perhaps a lucky escape!
The Habitat example always sticks in my mind, when the retailer used hashtags related to protests in Iran, as well as the Apple iPhone 3 launch. They blamed an "enthusiastic intern"...

Glad you enjoyed the post... I agree that one was shocking too. To be honest, when I was researching this post, I couldn't believe how many companies had made mistakes like this... surely all it takes is two minutes to do some research to find out the context of the hashtag before you use it :S

Awesome post Amy. The one that sticks out the most in my memory is when that clothing boutique used #Aurora to advertise their dress right after the Colorado theatre shooting.
