There are millions of blog pages on the internet, and many of them are extremely good; a higher percentage of them, however, are lacking in many areas.
So, what turns a good blog into a great blog?
Stylizing the blog is what gives it distinction, and will draw people in. The basis of any good blog is that the information in it needs to be well written, clear and applicable to the intended audience. It goes without saying really, as it is the information that people are seeking in the first place. For many blog writers, the problems are with the style and layout rather than poor content.
Formatting
Nobody wants to read though page after page of text that has been laid out like a Word document. The text within the article should be laid out in lots of short paragraphs, each one generally homing in on one main idea or concept. People will switch off before they start reading if it looks like the text is too long and it is laid out in huge chunks. Research has shown that the layout of the text on a page alone will make a big difference to whether someone starts to read it or not. If they can see the first few sentences and read them in a quick glance it may be enough to draw them in.
Overall Aesthetic
People searching through internet pages want to read interesting and unique looking pages and articles. Layout and color are things that should be decided upon firstly, and the whole feel and mood of the site is set by this. This applies mainly to those who are writing blogs for their own blog site. The look and feel of the whole page is important, and it is easy to create the right atmosphere just by choosing a good background color and text font for your site.
Utilizing Multimedia
The next thing to consider is the type of content that will be featured within each blog. Pictures and video clips integrated into the text are always a good idea, and they give immediate impact to the blog. People love to watch a video clip, and as long as it supports the blog well, it can be a great addition to it. The old saying 'a picture paints a thousand words' is always true a well, and if you can find interesting and relevant pictures to add in, this will also greatly enhance the blog. Other options include adding charts, graphs or maps to the blog. It is a great way to cut out chunks of text, and still give the same information.
The main thing to remember is that the more creative you can be, the better. People want an interesting read, not endless block paragraphs of solely text.
