Shorty Awards: Sustainable Cities Collective Wins in Green Category

robin carey shorty awardsOn Monday night, Sustainable Cities Collective - a member of the Social Media Today family - won a Shorty Award for the best of social media in the Green category. We are very flattered to be selected and honored in this manner.

It puts us up there alongside other winners like Jerry Seinfeld, Ian McKellen, Jamie Oliver and, er, the Matrix Cat (an animated gif, in case you didn't know).

As the New York Times says, "Hollywood has the Oscars. Broadway has the Tonys. Now Twitter has the...Shorty Awards."

The Sixth Annual Shorty Awards ceremony was held this Monday in New York City, hosted by Natasha Leggero. The Green category award for Sustainable Cities was collected by the CEO of parent company Social Media Today, Robin Fray Carey (right).

We are honored because it recognizes the value of the content presented on our website to the world at large, and it recognizes the way we use social media to spread this message in a mode that is convenient for shakers and movers in the global, connected sectors of those who make our cities better places to live now and in the future.

So we would like to thank all of our contributors who provide the valuable content, the team at Social Media Today who work behind the scenes to moderate, administrate, code, and work their magic on TwitterFacebookLinked-InPinterest and all the other channels that we use to get the content out there, and everybody who voted for us.

We would also like to thank our sponsors, Siemens, for supporting us. "Siemens was the first underwriter and we launched the site with them in 2008.  The site flourished under their support. Because of Siemens' belief in open conversations and editorial independence, they were an ideal partner for SustainableCitiesCollective," according to Robin Fray Carey, CEO, Social Media Today.

"We strongly believe in contributing to open discussions with expertise, engaging in co-creation processes and listening to influencers," said Michael StenbergVice President Digital & Infrastructure at Siemens. "With 70 percent of mankind projected to be living in cities in 2050, Siemens is contributing to addressing the big challenges ahead of us.”

We hope this recognition will see the site moving on to greater things in the future. We are Sustainable Cities Collective - join us!

CEO, Social Media Today LLC

In 2007, Robin Carey founded Social Media Today, LLC, one of the first companies to manage online B2B communities that connect large organizations with people they want to influence. A veteran of the big-book print media world that included Fortune, Newsweek and BusinessWeek, she had built her reputation on architecting powerful strategies that delivered to blue-chip corporate clients and their agencies ways to corral and connect with their customers, and equally importantly, their customers’ trusted influencers. As traditional media went digital, and the internet went social, Robin was one of the first to realize that the emerging social media platforms offered huge promise to corporations seeking to interact directly with, and learn from, their customers, their employees, and experts from the Ivy Towers, the Street and the Hill.
