Social Media and the Changed Face of Love
Posted on August 30th 2014
Social media is everywhere these days. Millions of people around the world have their profiles on these platforms. According to a study by the statistics portal Statista, the number of social media users has been on the rise globally since the last few years. And in 2014, it is expected to reach a whopping 1.82 billion.
According to the data of January 2014, as many as 74% of the global population have their active presence on social media. This immense presence and the resultant activities are reason enough for these platforms to have their influence on a wide range of events. And these include the most intricate things of human civilizations as well – relationships.
Over the last few years, social media has experienced love blossoming through them. The story of the Instagram proposal for marriage is now visible almost all over the internet. But this is not unique to Instagram only. Social media has made it easier for people to get connected with one another. And this is visible across a wide range of platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, and so on.
Social Media becoming the Major Platform for Lovers
Believe it or not, social media has become one of the most relevant platforms for the love bugs. And a large number of couples who end up marrying each other, have met online. A study published by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences revealed that around 35% of the couples who got married between 2005 and 2012 met online. This data surely reveals how important social media has become in the field of relationships and love.
The Best Place to Get Connected in a Busy World
With every passing day, the world is becoming an extremely fast place. As everyone is becoming extremely busy, it is difficult for people to meet people outside. This is where the world of social media has become relevant. It has become an excellent place to get connected with one another. And in recent times, it has become the most common place where love blooms.
Helping Relationships Develop
The concept of using the internet for finding a partner has been in practice for quite some time now. Dating and matrimony websites have been present on the internet for a long time now. But the perspectives have changed with the advent of social media.
One can now feel that there’s absolutely no reason to depend only on the dating or the matrimony websites. Instead, people who are looking to find love on the internet now spend more time on the social media platforms. There, they get acquainted with new people and know them properly. This is one of the primary reasons why social media has been able to play a major role in helping relationships develop.
Social Media Likely to Create Happy Relationships
In this busy world, it is difficult for people to spend a lot of time with their partners. As a result, a large number of marriages are falling apart. And this is common across the globe. However, a sharp exception has been noticed as well. People who meet online and get married are likely to lead a happy life together. Relationships, which had started online, are as much as 25% less likely to end up in a divorce. This surely is proof enough how effective the social media platforms have become to start a lasting relationship.
Excellent Platform for Long-distance Relationships
Worried how you are going to continue a relationship when you and your fiancée stay in different cities? Long-distance relationships and the way they are managed have always intrigued people across the globe. They were not very frequent in the earlier days. However, with the advent of social media, it’s quite easy for a person sitting in one corner of the earth to fall in love with a person sitting in the opposite corner. They are probably among the best tools to drive the flame of love that remains burning even thousands of kilometers away.
Great to Use for Long Relationships
Social media helps people to remain in touch with one another almost throughout the day and night. This is extremely helpful for relationships, which have already lasted for a few years. However, it destroys the magic of a new relationship. During the first few days of a relationship, there’s a mystery attached to it that keeps the lovers mesmerized. And that mystery works best in estrangement. This is why it is better to avoid social media in the initial stages of a relationship, opines Online Dating Guru Julie Spira. This is sure to keep the magic alive for a longer period of time.
Social media is gradually encompassing a lot of things within its radar. And even the human emotions are not left out. Love has been around since the advent of human civilization. But social media has been able to give it a completely new dimension. With every passing day, it is being used by the lovers to express their feeling and get into relationships. And it really feels great to change the relationship status on social media from ‘Single’ to ‘Committed’.
