Now that mass confusion over Facebook Timeline has subsided, it's high time the genius minds out in Silicon Valley give us social media marketers something new to gush about.
Facebook announced Wednesday that it will be rolling out Timeline for Pages, an initiative we believe will turn the social network into an outlet for storytelling. This will provide a unique opportunity for brands to increase transparency and truly engage fans.
The concept of Timeline alone delivers a number of options for engagement wherein brands can highlight memorable points in their history-allowing fans to understand and relate to company milestones. Likeable Media was a result of my wedding in 2006, a word-of-mouth marketing event that sparked meaningful relationships with many current clients. Those who were not part of the initial experience can visit Likeable's Timeline and discover our history for themselves.
Similar to personal profiles, the new interface is increasingly organic and provides brands the ability to post multiple stories with which users can simultaneously engage. This increases visibility on the News Feed and the page itself. As an added bonus, Timeline allows brands to pinpoint particularly likeable posts to the top of their page for one week to continue the discussion.
Where social media gives brands a voice, heightened storytelling capabilities expand this voice to significantly engage audiences.
Needless to say, integration of the cover photo provides valuable space for improved logo, product, and promotional placement-connecting a brand's history and voice with its visual story.
Timeline for Pages allows companies to cultivate a personable identity by telling their story and inviting consumers to be part of that narrative. How will you utilize this innovative change to promote your brand? Let us know in the comments!
