On May 6th Mashable let you know that new twitter follower email notifications were scheduled for an upgrade, both visually and in format.
However, the new twitter follower notificaitons were not the only addition. Now totalling seven, here's a recap of when you can expect to recieve an e-mail based notification - unless you decide to opt out:
Each time you're sent a direct message
Each time you're sent a reply or mentioned
Each time somebody new follows you
Each time one of your tweets is favorited
Each time you're retweeted
For updates about new Twitter products, features and tips
For product or service updates related to your account
