The United Nations has designated the first Monday of October as World Habitat Day, and that's this Monday, October 5! This is your chance to do something really important. Shelter is among the most basic needs of people everywhere, and Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to meeting this challenge globally. As their web site says:
"On this day, we reaffirm that adequate shelter is a basic human right, and we focus on the housing conditions of cities and towns around the world. We also use this day to remind the world of its collective responsibility for the future of the human habitat.
On October 5, 2009, please join us in support of World Habitat Day, as we raise our voices and declare that the lack of decent, affordable housing is unacceptable."
I once suggested that Twitter celebrities use their influence to raise money for Habitat for Humanity and Amnesty International, two extremely important causes. Now I'm using what little influence I have to urge you to support World Habitat Day and Habitat for Humanity. Despite the state of our economy, and every one of us has been touched by it, we are extremely fortunate to have shelter, food, medicine and the basics we take for granted but others often do without.
So go to the World Habitat Day site and follow the action plan: Advocate, Educate, Donate! Or just click the link below! Thank you.
