Yahoo! The struggling Internet content portal has reached out to a Google pioneer for its fourth CEO in the past year.
News about Marissa Mayer, Google's first female engineer and its 20th employee back in 1999, comes as somewhat of a surprise in the tech world. Now 37, she was responsible at Google for her role in the launch of some of the company's most notable products such as Google Maps, Gmail and iGoogle.
The blog ReadWriteWeb trumpeted the selection as a great move that will command attention attention at Yahoo and perhaps elevate the company from its mediocrity of recent years.
It'll be a tough road, but look for Yahoo to pursue new social media tools and perhaps an acquisition or two in the near future under its new leadership.
