Did you ever think that you could connect a career in the museum world with a career in the social world? Well, it's time to meet Betsy Codding. Codding is currently the Social Media Manager for MassMutual's Financial Group and their corporate social media channels. She's doing a lot of incredible things there and you'll see how she connects around life moments. The thing I found the most fascinating was how she connected the dots of her career to get to where she is today. It's a really great interview.

What is MassMutual's approach to social media?
"We're an insurance and financial services company. It might not sound exciting, but it's an interesting place to be at this time because the company's really trying to reinvent itself in a lot of different ways. We know we exist in a conservative and regulated sphere, but we've really embraced social media. We're on five different platforms and we're really trying to find different ways to talk to people about subjects that we know they care about and then make that connection back to MassMutual. This allows us to talk about what we do in a more accessible way. We're curating content all the time and hopefully this will resonate with people that are at one of those all important life stages, such as getting married, buying a house or having children."
What is the biggest challenge facing MassMutual in social today?
"One challenge is being able to interact more in real-time and this links back to the resources question - we don't have a specific customer service channel, but we do have a lot of customer service comments and questions. It's important to be able to respond very quickly in these situations, as that's our fan's expectation. We don't have a plan in place to do that, but we have 'round the clock monitoring. The other challenge is to see how we can embrace some of the growing and more dynamic social platforms. We want to be there but we want to do it in a smart way and for good reasons - it has to make sense for us to communicate well and to share great content."
