Having started and run an amazing 120-staff display and shopfitting company supplying Australia's leading retailers and supermarket chains, I have turned all my energy into solving the frustrations I experienced with freelancing sites. While I saw online outsourcing as a huge potential advantage for my business, I struggled to find a site that matched the needs of a serious business seeking quality and reliable remote staff at realistic rates of pay. My new company GetSerio is an exclusive platform for vetted corporate hirers and freelancers, dedicated to ending the race to the bottom in online outsourcing.
Great article Rosie. I would add that consistency is also key when building brand awareness- you want to have a consistent tone when publishing your social media content, this will help new audiences become familiar with your brand and slowly build relationships with customers online.
Thanks for the article Greg.
I think optimising your social media strategy is where a lot of companies tend to fall short- social media thrives on the 24 hour news cycle, if you are not consistently engaging with your online audience your business will find itself struggling for visibility. For companies that may not have the staff capacity or time, I would recommend outsourcing your social media needs to an independent contractor on your behalf.

Thanks for the article Saman.
With my company we've developed an online platform for corporate hirers and freelancer use, and we had recently branced out into a business Youtube page. We've created clips to demonstrate many of our online productivity tools, however our page tends to struggle for visibility more than our other social media channels.
It's a shame that there lacks a business category on Youtube, but understandably the most watched videos would be in the entertainment categories.
I think that there is still a large distinction between Facebook and Google Plus. Like you mentioned, Google Plus is for networking and building your professional online brand, whereas Facebook is definitely more personal and focused on the private lives of individuals. I would say there is more similarity between LinkedIn and Google Plus (for SEO purposes) than with Facebook which by large is not used for professional networking.
I run an online platform (http://www.getserio.com/) designed for company hirers and online freelancers, and have found that LinkedIn has played the dominant role in our online marketing strategy.
Thanks for the article Pam! I think it's also important for businesses to evaluate which social media platforms will best suit their specific goals. I run an online platform (http://www.getserio.com/) designed for company hirers and online freelancers to find eachother, and I have found that LinkedIn and Twitter have played the dominant roles in our online marketing strategy.
