LinkedIn's 187 million members are business people. There are no tweens, teenagers or grampa's chatting about what they had for lunch. It's about 187 million business people discussing business. There are 1 million new members per week joining LinkedIn and groups are a big part of that.
Having a LinkedIn profile or business page is not an option anymore. I find that most of the members act in a very professional manner. LinkedIn Today, which is their 'News" section is also very valuable.
Starting a group takes time and effort, once you hit the 500 memers mark the group will start to get traction on it's own. Some groups have thousands of people joining every week, this of course depends on the topic and who you are trying to attract. Be sure to have a few discussions already posted before you start to invite people to your group. You are only allowed to join 50 groups.
I have a bit of a niche group that I would like to share with you. It is 2 years old, has a 2,000 plus members, which is not a lot of members but the quality of the members is extremely high. Many of the members depend on the group to get all of the news regarding the Daily Deal Industry!
LinkedIn Group "Daily Deal industry" This group is mostly CEO's and key management of Daily Deal companies and other technology start-ups from around the world.

Well thought out article, I think you should offer a class about it. Let's chat about it.
Thanks for sharing. I did check out Victor Ronco's profile, you are right it is very well written and to the point. I also like what you said in # 6 about human skills and characteristics. What a great way to highlight your personal qualities.
Hi Mike, I agree with you on how Klout handled this. I have been trying to increase my score only to have it tobble a couple of times. And I have a lower score than most people who care about it. My score ranges from 33-40.
I do agree that they have to make these changes in order to level the playing field and be more efficient at grading scores.
Appinions.com is another very good company to use if you want to keep track of those with Klout on certain topics. I have been beta testing them for a while an feel that they are a winner.
