Google is giving more weight to local detail in certain search categories, I expect the list will continue to evolve. Local businesses have an opportunity to show up in category results; however, it is important for businesses to maximize their local Google presence.

Samsung partnered with Angry Birds in an effort to maximize the capabilities of the TV experience in the stores. The goal was to get consumers to the store to play the game on the new TV. JiWire was the mobile technology platform chosen to deliver location-specific ads to consumers near certain retail stores. Ads contained important information like the name and address of the retail store.

Nike's new #makeitcount campaign is an excellent example of an effective SoMoLo strategy. The entire focus of the messaging is consumer focused. It’s about “we” and “you” setting personal goals, challenging each other, making things happen. In the beginning, there isn't even a product mention; it’s all about lifestyle and personal achievement.

It can get pretty interesting, researching inadvertent mistakes and careless silliness that has surfaced on social media platforms. Like this example of poor use of social media by an England hospital in 2009, doctors and nurses engaged in a Facebook lying down game that put their jobs in jeopardy.
