Some excellent tips especially the 3rd and the 10th ones. Some other points that I would like to mention and are of utmost importance are adding valuable content instead of marketers who just try to advertise their offerings.
Instead of pushing the products/services towards the customers, marketers should try the Pull Effect to build their customer base. They need to solve problems for their customers and make their lives better. If all done correctly, the content will naturally be shared amongst the targeted audience and will increase the reach of the business. A very interesting article really. The niche point that you have highlighted is a good one. A new website or even a new article, if targeted to people across the globe is surely going to get lost and go down the drain whereas if the same website is targeted at a particlular niche segment, then it's obvious that people are going to share it and talk about it in their circles.
This contributes in a major way to your link building campaigns as well the reach of your business increases and slowly you can build more and more on that.
But with various social media sites popping up, will Google consider this social form of link building also while ranking websites. It surely will I guess but only when it completely overhauls its system and puts some effective tracking analytics in place. But there will surely come a time when social media will step up and will hog the limelight from SEO.

An interesting article. A few things I would like to add is we should keep a check on the list topics trending about on twitter or what businesses and companies tweet. This way we can come to know what to talk about and can also center our conversation around the trending topics. It surely adds more value as well we manage to get our point across.
