Facebook is testing a new element in its slowly evolving eCommerce tools with a dedicated Facebook Live mode that enables Pages to showcase products in their stream, which viewers can then easily purchase via screenshots.
Spotted by SMT contributor Jeff Higgins, Facebook says the new Page broadcasting option will help businesses "quickly close sales" by connecting viewers to purchases in real-time.
There's not a heap of detail available as yet, but it could be an interesting consideration. The option appears to be an extension of Facebook's 'Shop' option for Pages, which enables businesses to list products they're selling.
The screenshot process will likely involve a dedicated button for viewers which they can tap during the broadcast - essentially, the option aims to incorporate the engagement benefits of Facebook Live into the eCommerce experience, helping businesses sell more stuff.
As noted, Facebook has slowly been edging further into eCommerce. This is most notable through its Marketplace option, which has been integrating more and more businesses into its listings, enabling Facebook to add more direct selling tools - though on-platform payments remain a hurdle.
This new test shows that Facebook may be looking to ramp up its efforts in this regard. In the broader scheme, it's not a major update, but it would provide another engaging way for brands to sell products to their Facebook audience.
