For those who post and walk away I want you to realize what you're doing. Not only are you a horrible social media user, you're flirting with the finish line.
Your Social Media Is Wrong
Lets say you have a table that has three buttons on it. Atop the buttons is a sign that reads,
Hey social media guy. Press one, two, or three buttons. Your call, but just to let you know, the more buttons you pick the more visibility you'll get.
I can't understand why you don't press all three buttons. I don't understand why you think social media will automatically work in your favor and turn you into this Internet mastodon.
You Are No Internet Mastodon
You're just a little baby penguin with a keyboard. You're not accomplishing much just writing something, especially if you have the knowledge and the know-how to share it with those who would read it and share it on their social networks.
Stop assuming you're famous.
Do the work. The most bizarre part of this process is the fact most people will spend hours, if not days, creating an enticing piece of content they should be proud of. Then they'll throw it up there and email a few people about it. If we're lucky they'll post it to their personal accounts, and that will be that.
The buck doesn't stop there.
You're doing yourself such an injustice by being so timid. And yes, you're being timid. There is no excuse, especially if you're doing social media as a profession. I've said this before and you'll hear it more often than not that social media is called social media for a reason. Look at the first word. If the internet was about free exposure and a viral rise to stardom was included agencies would not exist.
Get Social With Your Content
I've been around the block with creating content. It's hard. You don't need to sell me on that. It's also demotivating most of the time. In the beginning. I believe you.
But I'm still going to kick you when you're down if you're not trying to get out there. We are masters of the limelight. We are supposed to be the ones who can get the others noticed. So don't get lazy on them!
Show everyone what you're capable of!
