With the holiday season fast approaching, businesses are working to get their social media marketing and outreach promotions locked in. Many will no doubt be using Facebook (the company just posted a record quarterly result for ad revenue), but outside of The Social Network, the options are more specific, more niche and focused on your individual customer behaviors and interests.
And while it's seen a lot of negative press of late, Twitter remains a crucial connection platform for many brands. This is actually one of the more interesting elements of the pervading Twitter sentiment - while the platform has struggled to add more users, its revenue is still rising, up 8% year-over-year according to their latest results. And Twitter is adding users (now at 317 million MAU), just slower than they, and the market, would like, while they've also added a range of new tools to help brands maximize the platform, and their ad targeting options and analytics are improving.
In short, Twitter's still a great way to reach consumers, and it's worth considering how you can use tweets within your seasonal marketing plan.
To help with this, Twitter has released this new infographic which looks at how people used the platform in their shopping process during last year's holiday season. Some of the key insights include:
- 84% percent of Twitter shoppers use Twitter in their purchase planning process
- 73% percent of Twitter shoppers follow businesses to find special deals, and 43% are likely to visit a store after seeing such deal on the platform
- Twitter users spent an average of $811 each during the holidays
