If you're managing a Facebook page, or ten, you definitely want to know who your fans are. Facebook insights provides some decent demographic info. but it also falls short in important areas. One such area is your fans' interests. In other words, which pages (brands, movies, musicians, etc.) do your fans like?
There's a very easy way to find out:
- Log in as a page admin and go to your page
- Click Promote with an Ad in the admin box in the top right. You should now be on the What do you want to advertise? page
- In the Connections on Facebook section, check Only people who are fans of [your page]
- Now, in the Precise Interests field, simply add whatever page you want to measure against
- The Estimated Reach box will now show you an estimate for the number of your fans that like that page
Here's a quick example, as well as some important notes below:
Clearly, this method will only give you info. for pages you know you want to measure for, and is a rough estimate. One way you used to be able to generate a list of your fans top interests was to run a Profile report on a Facebook ad campaign. Unfortunately, this feature has limitations, like it only counts the last 14 days and only counts for a specific ad campaign. Oh, and by the way, its currently been broken for about a month.
Finally, if you happen to have a contact at Facebook, in the past they've been able to run something called a Pulse Report, which includes a list of the top pages your fans like. My account rep. at Facebook ran into trouble pulling this for me when I recently asked on behalf of a client. It may still be possible, but don't hold your breath...
C'mon Zuck, step it up!
