Congrats again, another very good article.
On your opening statement: ("Key ingredients to success include ...... Other ways to achieve ROI....), I have got one remark:
The key elements you expand on: audience/content balance, establishing clear goals, listening, finding a unique voice, producing compelling content are actually elements of a good brief!
1. audience/content balance, (target group needs and wants but also likes)
2. establishing clear goals, (objective of the activity / initiative)
3. listening, (insights)
4. finding a unique voice, (branding)
5. producing compelling content (key differentiating proposition and message)
So the key message is to be organised upfront and consistent through out.
