With the success of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Ning, Tagged, Pinterest and Google Plus+, new social network players are cropping up like gremlins on a rainy day. Depending on your personality, you may enjoy one social network more than others. Some are more popular, as RingCentral shows in this blog post, but each has its own appeal factor. The list below is by no means exhaustive, and I stayed clear of making a usual social media tip-list, but I do hope you enjoy going over this list as much as I enjoyed writing it:
The Gossip
- Your idea of accomplishment is learning that the football player you used to date and who dumped you for the homecoming queen is now bald
- You get a kick out of cat fights online and offline
- You want to know everything about your favorite celebrities-the usual brands they wear, who they're going out with, the toothpaste they use, etc.
You should be on: Facebook, Twitter
The Pseudo-Photographer
- Your passion is taking photos of your travels, every meal you eat, your outfit for the day, your baby, your pet, your husband, the dust on the windowsill that formed an angel and which you believe is a message from God, etc.
- You can't wait to show off your amateur engagement party photos, wedding photos, honeymoon photos, etc.
- You spend five minutes or more choosing the best filter for the Instagram photo you're going to take using your smartphone
- You bought a DSLR even before you learned how to use it
- You spend hours looking for the perfect quote and textures to photoshop with the inspiring photo someone else took
- You love photos of cute furry animals
- You'd rather share, retweet, or reblog than make your own content
- You can't wait to organize your shares, retweets, and reblogs into hashtags, albums, tags, or categories
You should be on: Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest
The Geek
- You're passionately passionate about a certain hobby or topic (sports, anime, books, etc.). If you're an anime fan, you probably collect chibi figurines bought straight from Japan, play anime music on your iPod, and even cosplay to work
- You love meeting other people who are passionately passionate about your passions.
- When you do meet other people who are passionately passionate about your passions, the highly possible immediate reaction is to go wide-eyed, make screeching sounds, and say, "YOU TOO?!!! That is soooo cooooolllll!"
- You can talk about your passion for hours and hours on end.
You should be on: LiveJournal (celebrity, pop culture/anime/manga geeks), Twitter (sports, celebrity geeks), Google Plus+ (photography and technology geeks)
The Fangirl (overlaps with The Geek in some instances)
- You write or read fanfiction about your favorite book/movie/TV characters or celebrities
- You love blogging about your fangirl activities
- All the things your celebrity crush does-from singing to snorting-make you swoon and give you nosebleeds
- You "ship" romances and bromances (e.g. if You're a Merlin fan, you're a Bradley James/Colin Morgan or Angel Coulby/Bradley James shipper)
- As a Harry Potter fan, you can write extensive commentaries on the political nature of "The Order of the Phoenix"
You should be on: LiveJournal
The Artist
- You eat and breathe art, digital or traditional
- You enjoy making textures, layouts, and icons
- You spend your days writing the next Nobel Prize for Literature winner
You should be on: Deviantart, LiveJournal
The Indecisive One
- You have great philosophical questions about life like "Why is the sky blue?" or "If I go to the Lady Gaga concert, can I die happy now?"
- You don't know if you're a boy or a girl
- You're stuck thinking about a life-changing decision-you have no idea if you're going to dye your hair blue with pink ombre, pink with blue stripes, or just a plain shocking green
- You honestly don't know if you should give that ex who hit you a second chance
- You want to know if the YouTube video you were watching is funny or not
- You're curious if other people were also in the same awkward situation you were in (e.g. Did you ever like your bestfriend?)
You should be on: Formvote, Formspring
The Soon-to-Be Mom
- Your biggest passions in life are your future baby and your hubby
- You can't wait to show off your ultrasound photos, delivery photos, first baby's photos, baby's first-steps photos, baby's first-tooth photos, baby's first-tumble photos, etc.
- You want to create digital scrapbooks of your "baby's firsts" photos
- You want to know how new positive parenting strategies stand up against traditional parenting methods
- Your idea of a good read is "Potty Training Your Kids from Day 1," "Preparing 30-minute Family Meals," or "Achieving Work-Life Balance for the Overachieving Mom"
You should be on: Facebook, CafeMom
The Foodie
- You're a food blogger
- You exasperate your friends/family whenever you eat out because you just have to get a perfect shot of every dish before everyone gets to eat

- Motor oil on syrups, hair spray on cake, brown shoe polish on meat-you know all the tricks of the food photographer's trade
- You love travelling for food
- You love trying and sharing recipes
- You love eating, period
