Many people believe that blogs are meant only to drive people to your website. While making your website more searchable is a reason for having a blog, it is not the only reason to have a blog. You also want people to read your blog to get information about your industry. You people to connect with you on a more personal level that might lead them to buy from you eventually. You want to build your credibility in the field as an expert. You want to build trust with your customers. And, you want to build name recognition with your potential clients and customers. Brand awareness is an end result you want to get from blogs.
How does one blog do all that? One blog doesn't do all that, but many blogs do. How can your blog posts be more engaging? You should attempt these tricks to help you create great content.
.Hook your readers. The headline and lead are critical to ensuring your readers continue to another website. You can ask them a question. For example, Have you ever thought what the world would be like if no one worked in regular office jobs? You also could lead with a famous quote. Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. You can lead off with numbers. About 75 percent of the labor force telecommute. Or you can begin by telling a story. Have you ever noticed how many Washington Post stories begin with a story leading you into the body of the article?
.Every word and sentence is necessary. After you write a piece, edit it or have someone else edit it to make sure no words are unnecessary. For example, writers who use in order to instead of saying to are wasting words. Keeping the blog short and sweet will ensure you keep readers moving to the end of the post. You can read the post out loud and in hard copy form to hear the troublesome words.
.Don't be long-winded. Readers have short attention spans. They don't want to read long, convoluted sentences before the writer gets to the point. Hit the bullseye on the first try. Use short sentences and follow up with more short sentences. To vary the writing, add in some clauses.
.Along the same lines, pick smaller words. Don't use utilize when you can say use. Readers don't want to look up words they might not understand. Just pick the shortest word that conveys the same meaning. You want to sound sensible not pretentious unless, of course, your audience is academic professors.
.Use analogies. People love comparisons. You can argue home improvement is like chasing the Loch Ness monster. It's always elusive and continuing. This is likely to spark an interest in readers because they never thought of things in those terms. It's also likely that they will return to your blog to see what more you have to say.
.Use references. If you go online today, you will see many blog posts include Donald Trump in their posts. The reason? He is making a lot of noise in the presidential election and keeping people entertained at the same time. So, if people are entertained by the Donald, they will want to read about it in your post.
.Find a new angle. To be the best, you want to write about something that is different. However, every topic has been done regularly. What you can do to keep it fresh and interesting is find a new angle. For example, if the topic is about 10 ways to remove mold from your shower, you could write why you should hire someone to remove mold from your shower and not to do it yourself. You could write about reasons not to have an outdoor wedding if everyone has written reasons for the outdoor wedding.
.Add a call to action. Great blogs always include a reason for it at the end. You want a punchy conclusion. You also want people to contact you or your company. Adding a sentence about calling for more information is a great way to end your compelling piece. To build traffic to your blog, use tips gained here.
