Lunar New Year is one of the most celebrated events in the world, with billions of people taking part in festivals to mark the occasion across the globe. And given social media's rise to prominence in our engagement and interactive processes, it's interesting to see the part social platforms are now playing in the wider connectivity of the celebration.
To get some further insight into how social is helping people share in the event all around the world, Facebook commissioned Ipsos to survey more than 2,500 people across Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam and analyzed Facebook and Instagram data to accompany their findings. Their research has been compiled into a new infographic (below) which outlines the various ways in which people use social around the event, including using Instagram as inspiration for travel plans, using Facebook to help with online shopping inspiration and which hashtags are most commonly attached to the celebration.
Given the rise in activity around Lunar New Year, these insights are of significant value for marketers - see below for the full 'Lighting Up Lunar New Year' infographic.
