Foursquare was down for 11 hours yesterday. In the world of social media, that's pretty much a lifetime and a half. I'm pretty sure Google Buzz didn't even last 8 hours. Websites come and go in 11 hours.
Does Foursquare still even exist? I'm not sure because I didn't see anyone check into anything and fill my Twitter feed with spam. Sure, those posts were meaningless to everyone, but I knew Foursquare was still alive and kicking as long as people could check into Starbucks and the other 13 places that have deals for their customers.
If people can't check into things, do those things even exist? I can't trust that anything is actually where it is if people are not checking into those places. How did I even find things before people checked into them on a GPS system that is sometimes wildly inaccurate?
Without Foursquare, what is even the point of going to places? If I'm not the mayor no one can be the mayor. What did we even do before places had mayors? How did we know who was in charge?
This is all too confusing. I'm going to hide on Facebook and check people into places there. That way, I can at least pretend there are people out and about in the world.
