The most common questions that come up when discussing a websites opt-in process are:-
- What should I offer?
- What words should I use?
- Would creating a report be enough?
- Should I use audio/video?
A high percentage of the people that come to your website aren’t there to read your blog. They don’t visit to subscribe to your email list or sign up for your newsletter.
What they are looking for is a solution. A solution to a problem.
Sometimes they might not even be aware they have a problem. The goal of the opt-in is to create something that people cannot pass up, that makes them say “I want that”. And just like that, for the price of their email address you provide the solution.
Your email list is perhaps your most important marketing asset - it’s something you'll continue to grow for the lifetime of the business. But it’s also important to ensure that this list is of highly targeted clients who already want what you offer. This is where your opt-in offer becomes paramount.
Use the following formula to create an irresistible opt-in offer.
1. What do your clients want the most?
Ask yourself ‘what do my clients want the most?’ Focus on one simple thing, not an overview of all your services and product offerings.
If you’re on social media you can ask them directly what they want. Alternatively, what are the main players in your industry or niche offering?
Write down the one single thing they want.
2. What to offer
Now we can move on to think of what to offer.
There are so many options you can include such as:
- Strategies
- Tips & Tricks
- Steps
- Formulas
- Secrets
- Keys
Write down one word from the list that will be what you offer.
3. How many?
How many strategies tips or steps will you give? Bear in mind that if you give away too much information you might confuse, or even overwhelm, the reader. They'll also be looking for fast, actionable tasks they can use right away.
Studies have also shown that free information, even when highly valuable, most times will not be taken seriously. People are much more likely to take action on things they pay for. So your opt-in should be valuable yet not in depth.
Decide how many tips or tricks or whatever you’re offering, that you can comfortably provide in your opt-in offer.
Jot down the number of things you will offer.
4. Result
This is the one thing that the client can expect, what results will using this opt-in create? This is what you state in your opt-in offer.
For example - 'Boost your Instagram following', 'Make money with your blog', 'Lose 5lbs in a week' etc.
People want something with tangible results. What result is it that you can deliver?
Tie all these points together - this is the title of your opt-in offer.
By using this simple, easy to follow process, you can present specific, enticing offers to your audience, and start building your email list in no time.
