I'm honored to let you know that our article about faceted tags and Facetag has been requested to be part of the June-July number of the Bulletin of the American Society for Information Science and Technology.
The Bulletin is a bi-monthly magazine packed with developments and issues affecting the field, pragmatic management reports, opinion, and news of people and events in the information science community.
After my talk at the IA Summit in Las Vegas, Stacy Surla invited the Facetag crew to publish a paper about our experiments, work and ideas on the evolution of social tagging and on the point of contacts between tagging and traditional classification schemes.
Our work was inspired by popular faceted examples like MeFeedia and Flamenco and Rawsugar with a specific focus on user experience and easiness of use.
As I wrote a number of times, we believe that tagging can be elevated to an higher degree through the introduction of some structure and magic sauce. The ingredients: a little bit of facets, some hierarchies and search all mixed with tags to guarantee a smooth filtering experience inside large quantities of similar items.
You can find the bulletin here and our contribution here (PDF).
