Within the world of social media, Frank Eliason, Director Global Social Media at Citi, stands out as one of the great thought-leaders. Active in the social media world since its inception in 2007, Frank spoke with Robin Carey about the way the Social Shake-Up has changed the conversation about social media within corporations from "if" to "how."
In the early days of social media thought-leaders such as Frank spoke of the way that social media could generate a conversation with the consumer and revolutionize the way brands do business. This was the "if" phase. Thought-leaders like Frank as well as our own Robin Carey worked as evangelizers to brands, many of whom felt that social media was a "fad." Brands would post a few videos on YouTube and maybe solicit some "likes" on their Facebook page and that was it. Unsurprisingly, Frank says, for the majority of brands, this campaign fell flat and many of them simply shunted it aside.
Now, however, brands are being forced to realize that whether they like it or not, they avoid social media at their own risk. The question they must all face, therefore is "how" to utilize social media. And, Frank, says, this is the biggest challenge of all.
Frank will be speaking on Scaling Customer Service: Best Practices in Online Customer Care & Self-Care Communities at the Social Shake-Up. Come hear him and other prominent thought-leaders on September 15th-17th in Atlanta. Register here. For information on group rates please contact [email protected].
