I had a very special experience this week, preparing for Thanksgiving.
A few years ago, my Dad reached an amazing discovery as he was working on our genealogy. He found the documents and proof through a distant relative that he met online that we are able to prove our Mayflower connection in our bloodline. We are descended from James Chilton, who got all the way to Plymouth, MA and then died on the ship before they got off. His young daughter carried on the bloodline.
My father went through the steps and registered himself, my sister, and I in the Mayflower Society officially. He joined the Pennsylvania chapter.
Last Sunday I went to a wonderful church service and dinner with the fellow ancestors of the Pilgrim families that are members in Pennsylvania. We were at the gorgeous old Moravian church in Lititz, Pennsylvania for the service. Then we had a large "family" dinner at the old General Sutter Inn. http://www.generalsutterinn.com
We met wonderful people, and had a very nice time.
My husband could not come because he had to work. It is a shame, because I realized that because his Mom is from Duxbury (the town next to Plymouth, MA) that it is common knowledge that they are Pilgrim ancestors from the Mayflower passenger Peregrine White, the first baby born here from the Mayflower. In a coincidence, his uncle Lloyd Chandler, passed away on Friday in Duxbury, MA. Lloyd was a lifelong resident of the area, and gave us amazing historic tours when we would visit.
Just thought it would be fun to share some Pilgrim musings for the holiday!
If you are celebrating, have a safe and wonderful family oriented Thanksgiving.
If this is not your holiday, just have a great day!!
