IBM has added a visualization tool -- Atlas -- to their Lotus Mail & Connections platform. Thanks to Valdis Krebs for pointing it out. As he said, "it does some simple visualizations and path-finding based on the connections it knows." He added that,"IBM was one of the first companies to "get" social network analysis. ... It was Gerry Falkowski of IBM who came up with the term "organizational network analysis"... because his mid 90s executive clients felt squeamish about anything "social."
The IBM Atlas site said:
"Atlas for Lotus Connections is a social networking application that allows users to visualize their current network of contacts and see how they can extend that network to tap into valuable resources and trusted experts across an entire organization. By mining information from the different components of Lotus Connections, Atlas compiles and displays information that will help people better understand professional networks and who they can reach out to for information."
Microsoft added social networking to Sharepoint with their Knowledge Network some time ago so this is good move.
