Steve Huff of the American Society of Shitcanned Media Elites provides evidence that Twitter is stupid relating a trending series of Twitter messages last week about an Idaho girl abducted.
As people retweeted each other's messages about an Amber Alert, Steve dug around the web and discovered that people were 1) retweeting a hoax; and 2) the girl was abducted back in February 2009.
But you don't have to agree with Steve and the ASSME. Dave Letterman also thinks the social networking site is stupid amid a witty dialogue with actor Kevin Spacey this week.
Do watch:
Twitter co-founder Biz Stone has faith. "That's generally how Twitter was characterized in 2007 so Dave's only two years behindâ€"we'll give him a little more time to catch up."
Fair enough, Biz.
One more thing. To everyone out there who rats on people who have more followers than those one follows, let me remind you what Kevin said about a minute in:
"People follow you, or you can follow people. I have over 800,000 people following me."
Kevin failed to mention he follows four: his business partner, his business partner's company, and two NASA astronauts. Before you say he's broadcasting more than engaging in dialogue with fans and those tweeting him, have a look at his recent tweets:
Whether or not you agree that Twitter is stupid, one thing is for certain: Kevin Spacey doesn't think Twitter is stupid or he wouldn't be replying to his fans or retweeting messages he finds valuable. Focus less on the numbers and more on the value and you'll realize, too, Twitter isn't stupid.
P.S. Please don't retweet hoaxes. If you come across a trending issue, do check it out before hitting the RT button!
