Culture of Content Creation
The Culture of Content Creation is a video series about people who make their own digital content to share with the world - such as blogs, podcasts, wiki entries, online product reviews or videos - to learn why they do it, what they find rewarding, and how they view their role in the world. Started in early 2008, this cultural media project from Elastic Lab continues today, reflecting changes in technology, knowledge and the social fabric of the Internet.
"It's just snowballing" tells the story of Alicia Shelman and her family who own Everett & Allie's Gift Shoppe in Brandenberg Kentucky. It is very much a joint venture for the Shelmans with Mom, Dad, and their three daughters splitting the work equally. Alicia has taken it upon herself to create their Facebook page as well as an e-commerce site for the store. Their mission has always been to provide the community with a quality gifts and good customer service, set in a comfortable atmosphere. This video tells the story of spreading that message with the use of social media. By utilizing the tools at hand such as Facebook, websites, and traditional business listings they have been able to not only attract customers but also give them a sense of ownership. Alicia gives us insight into how regular people are utilizing social media and what they can accomplish with just a little bit of time and effort. She comes to the realization that while just a few short years ago technology pushed us apart, now through the utilization of social media, technology is bringing us together.
