Something like that is happening with web folksonomy--the self-organizing tagging, categorization and indexing system we use to make it easier to find information on the internet. Everyone understands that fewer, more precise tags are more useful. Everyone also understands, at some level, the important role that semantics will play in the evolution of web. The common good is served by tags that are as limited and precise as possible.
And yet, most bloggers can't resist throwing in the whole bucket of bait--hoping that a trolling search engine will bite something...anything. Like the farmers and the commons, everyone acts on their individual interest. Just glance down the page below and you'll see what I mean.
Enough, already. It's time to get serious about building a web content categorization system that benefits everybody. Allons enfants!
