Over the years I have watched my share of reality television shows: Survivor, American Idol, The Mole, America's Got Talent, So You Think You Can Dance, The Voice, Top Chef, and several others.
These shows have at least one host, and in recent weeks, I started thinking of the impact this person has on my personal interest in the show.
A few people are great hosts. They have charisma, personality and they are interesting to watch and listen to. Ryan Seacrest, Jeff Probst, and Cat Deeley top this list.
On the other hand, there are people who are simply dull and boring: Carson Daly and Brooke Burke are two that immediately come to mind.
All of these hosts rely on scripts but their delivery of those lines makes a difference.
Here's how this concept applies to you...
Delivery of your solution in a plain vanilla tone is seldom enough to make your prospect sit up and take notice.
You can have the greatest product in the world but if your sales presentation is dull and boring, you will miss out on valuable sales opportunities.
You need to be compelling.
You need to make a statement.
You need to stand out from everyone else pitching the same or similar product, service, or solution.
You don't have to be good looking or possess a radio announcer's voice. You just need to be interesting.
What can you do to stand out and avoid being a vanilla-type salesperson?
