This is an issue that really hits a nerve with me.
Companies and people that put up PowerPoint decks on SlideShare, LinkedIn, even their own websites, for me to simply flip through their slides and don't record their commentary drives me crazy. It points to laziness. A presentation that went well with a speaker in front of an audience does not translate well when you share it without the commentary. Talk to me!
I want to know the details. I want to hear your passion as you speak on a topic you know really well. I want to better understand your point of view behind the bullets and graphics you put up for me.
PowerPoint presentations are eye candy for real content and expertise. Without you speaking along with it, I might as well have you send me a 140 character Tweet. It is lacking and I'm bored. It is just plain ineffective.
You know what I love, going through your archive of webinars. I am immersed in the topic and I learn something. There is value in what you have to say and getting the Q&A session at the end is a bonus. I am also more likely to find more out about the topic and you now that I know a little bit more.
Recording your presentation isn't that difficult. There are free or inexpensive tools you can use. So, plug in your mic and you are all set.
