Watching a documentary on Annie Leibovitz my favourite photographer, I was struck by three phrases which I think anyone thinking about social media marketing should think about.
- "Talent is like a big baby - it needs to be fed" - so often as team leaders we can think about developing others - but how much do you invest in feeding your own learning about digital marketing and how people are developing their marketing stategy through social media. The best tips often come from a totally unrelated industry!
- "You can do whatever you want but you must see the clothes". This was actually a tip she was given by someone - but it struch me that we can often get so lost in the tools of social media, so lost in trying to get a viral campaign....we forget the key part.....the product/service.
- "You work with the lens you've got - if you need a wide angle step back, if you need a close up...then step in" The reason why I wrote this down, is that we need to recognise when we need to step back and see why we do what we do and why we do what we do....and recognise when we need to sweat the details - remember Steve Jobs idea of "real artists ship"
