The Olympics are such great fun to watch, and even more fun to discuss and debate with friends. But there is something very new about this year's Olympics (and no it is not a new event) - Social Media.
Firms from McDonalds (the lost ring), to Coke (custom bottles) to Lenovo (athlete blogs) are participating in a whole new way in the Olympics...online. Youtube videos, cell coverage, bloggers and discussions are involving people in the Olympics in a way that was not available in years past...and major vendors around the world are putting their money where their advertising is having an impact. In fact several major firms have dedicated 100% of their spend to Social Media. Why? The power of the crowd to get their brand noticed and related in an emotional way to the Olympics. And it's having results in their sales as reported in initial online commerce, calls to sales lines, and customer purchases.
Can you relate this to your business? Are you empowering your customer's voices in your marketing? Are you putting this trend to work for you? Are you using social media for growth? Or are you sitting back and waiting to see what happens and as a result losing traction and sales funnel?
A recent survey at The JS Group found that less than 10% of mid size channel firms are using Social Media (Web 2.0) effectively (frankly at all) for their go to market. It's time to get involved, create an impact and get results with Social Media. If you are amongst the 90% of firms who have not created a social media plan it's time to get moving. If you need help contact Caryn Scherer of my team at [email protected] or choose a local expert to help you - but get moving....your business depends on it. (note: The JS Group has limited availability of social media consulting due to high demand at this time).
