The Culture of Content Creation series
In today's world of social media, digital voices rant and rave, ruminate on their experiences, give life to the world's causes, bring fame to the worthy, bring shame to the unworthy, denounce dishonesty and evil, and preach a million variations on truth. But while the voices are loud, the social media movement is, for the most part, a faceless movement. Conversations, discussions, relationships, business partnerships, and friendships exist where face-to-face encounters do not. Such is the nature of the Internet, and why this video project, The Culture of Content Creation, was launched.
Since the early part of 2008, Elastic Lab has commissioned video interviews with digital content creators of all kinds - bloggers, vloggers, reviewers, journalists, filmmakers, educators, artists, technologists, consultants, and many others who defy labels. But we wanted to do more than put a face on social media. We wanted to provide a sense of intent, of motive, of spirit, of value, of integrity, of artistry, and of humanity. To date we have commissioned more than 100 interviews, resulting in over 40 short films. The project continues today.
We are pleased to share these personal stories with the readers of Social Media Today, and look forward to the conversations that follow.
Our first video, "Social media is the world," takes a look at Jessica Sidman and her blog, Frozen Fix. Jessica is a multimedia journalist originally from Colorado, but currently living and reporting from Washington D.C. She writes for a number of publications both online and in print but it was a passion for ice cream that prompted her personal blog. In it, she explores the more creative side of ice cream, combining unusual ingredients into amazing ice creams that anyone can make at home. Jessica gives us an interesting perspective on social media and the almost seamless integration her generation enjoys. She believes that the future of news and information lies in niche sites catering to people's specific needs, which is exactly what Jessica Sidman is attempting with Frozen Fix. So sit back, grab a bowl of your favorite ice cream and enjoy Elastic Lab's "Social media is the world."
