Culture of Content Creation --
The Culture of Content Creation is a video series about people who make their own digital content to share with the world - such as blogs, podcasts, wiki entries, online product reviews or videos - to learn why they do it, what they find rewarding, and how they view their role in the world. Started in early 2008, this cultural media project from Elastic Lab continues today, reflecting changes in technology, knowledge and the social fabric of the Internet.
"This conversation is new" takes a look at ordained minister and podcaster Janetta Cravens Boyd. When Janetta became a minister in Georgia she was one of only three women in leadership roles in churches throughout the state. She was an early adopter of podcasts and immediately saw the value in this from of communication. Janetta is a powerful advocate for progressive religion and whole-heartedly believes in including everyone in her faith, which is why she picked up podcasting. She has degrees from Vanderbilt Divinity School as well as the University of Geneva, Bossy Ecumenical Institute. She is ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and has embraced various forms of social media in order to spread her sermons and discussions on religion. She gives us an interesting perspective on the impact of social media and how it can be adopted by anyone to spread a wide range of messages to the masses. Janetta is proof that these emerging technologies are not limited to the tech-savvy or the young computer enthusiast. She finds value in spreading gospel authentically and organically. She takes issue in the ways that the mass media has co-opted religion and based it out of a consumerist light and that is why she felt the need to add her voice to this discussion. So relax and take a look at how the good word is spread with the new tools of communication in "This conversation is new."
