I am currently between houses and to keep my phone number I ported it to Vonage. Thus far, no complaints and really like all the cool options they give you. I especially like having my voicemails sent to my email so I don't have to worry about remembering how to retrieve them and of course, enjoy getting them right away. Recently Vonage included a new visual voicemail option that they are letting me try for free. I just got my first one... basically they still send me the voicemail as a .WAV file but they also transcribe it to text so I can read it. Below is what I got this morning. In case you can't read it, the voicemail is from Dominos telling me about a special I can buy tonight only. This got me to thinking, maybe there is hope for telemarketing yet. If visual voicemail was more prevalent, companies like Dominos could call during the day (when they are pretty sure I'm not there) leave a message like this one and presto -- instant email/telemarketing campaign. Now I normally get really upset at telemarketers but in this case I actually found myself thanking Dominos for the effort. Too bad I'm traveling or I might actually take them up on the offer!
