"Do you think you'll live forever? Is this question too heavy for a Wednesday morning?
Many of us go about our days, tossed from one activity to the next; headed from this
meeting to that meeting; making decisions how to spend our time without thinking
through the ramifications.
When you choose to do one thing over another, you are also forfeiting the result if
you had done the thing you chose not to do. This is true for our time, for our
skills and for the resources we have.
If I spend time and money to attend the same 'ol industry conference that yields no
new business - those resources are not available for other things.
If I spend an hour and a half with a prospect who isn't a good fit for my product -
that time will not be returned to me to spend with a well-qualified prospect.
If I take 8 hours to work on my bookkeeping - I won't get those 8 hours back to
spend on business development activities.
Too often we do things at the expense of something else, without considering the
full consequences of the decision we make. We write off our use of the time
thinking, "I'll just do the other thing later..." Guess what - the amount of time
"later" is not an infinite amount of future time waiting for you. Your days are
numbered and this will not go on forever. At some point in the future, your part in
growing your business will be over. So what are you going to do with the time you
have to bring your vision to fruition?
