MADRID, ES, August 19, 2026 –Metricool, a global social media management platform, today released its annual 2026 State of AI in Social Media Study, revealing that 95% of social media professionals use AI in their work, including 75% who use it daily. The report is based on responses from more than 700 social media managers, marketers, creators, freelancers, agency professionals and business owners.
Metricool’s 2025 report showed that AI had become embedded in the social media workflow. In 2026, its role is expanding and reshaping how the work gets done. Brands, creators and agencies are moving past captions and content ideas and increasingly relying on AI for workflow automation, strategy, trend research and performance analysis. Since last year, AI use for strategy design has climbed from 39% to 62%, trend research from 36% to 61%, and metrics analysis from 32% to 59%.
Key findings include:
- 37% use more than four AI tools, compared with 14% in 2025.
- 43% use AI to automate repetitive tasks, up from 20% in 2025.
- 53% say AI enables them to do things they did not previously know how to do, while 47% have experimented with new formats or strategies.
- Three in four now pay for at least one AI tool, while the share spending more than $100 per month has grown from 3% to 13%.
- 61% use it for graphic design or image editing, up from 38% in 2025.
- 54% measure AI’s impact through time saved, compared with 6% who measure content quality and 4% who track post performance.
- 65% save between one and six hours each week, while nearly 25% save seven hours or more.
- 14% say AI-generated content performs worse than non-AI content, nearly three times the 5% reported in 2025.
- 86% use AI to write posts, captions and copy, while 84% use it to generate content ideas.
The data also reveals that workplace guidance has not kept pace with adoption. Only 12% of respondents have a clearly defined AI policy, while 35% report having no restrictions or formal rules around how they use AI at work.
“The conversation has shifted from whether social media professionals will use AI to how they can use it effectively before, during and after campaigns,” said Juan Pablo Tejela, CEO and Co-Founder of Metricool. “AI is becoming a strategic partner that can help teams analyze performance, uncover trends and work more efficiently. However, human judgment remains essential for protecting creativity, accuracy and brand voice.”
To help social media professionals apply AI to their daily workflows, Metricool offers an AI Social Media Assistant for developing and adapting content, Metricool Studio for generating reports and insights from social media data, and an MCP connector that connects Metricool accounts with AI tools including Claude and ChatGPT.
