Many bloggers including myself, spend hours behind the computer screen typing away.
Some of us even burn the midnight oil. We rise early the next morning, only to repeat the process all over again.
Hours behind a computer screen and lack of sleep will soon catch up you.
If you want to write great content and work on other projects, then it is important that you take care of yourself.
Lack of sleep, rest and relaxation can do more harm than good, which can result in your blog suffering as well.
Some of you are probably saying to yourself as you read this post, "That Evelyn is crazy..I have to do what I have to do."
When I don't get my rest, I can't come up with topics to write. Who knows where writer's block comes from, but prehaps it is a result of not resting the mind.
You already know that if you spend hours behind the computer screen that it can bother your eyes, your fingers, wrist, back, etc. Need I go on.
But today we will examine exactly what sleep and rest mean and how you can get more of it and be super productive throughout your day.
Sleep is defined as:
The natural periodic suspension of consciousness during which the powers of the body are restored.
If you are not getting enough sleep on a regular basis, then you will evenutally be too pooped to do anything blog related. Now, you don't want that too happen.
You not only need sleep, but you need rest. There is a difference in the two (2) you know.
Rest is defined as
A bodily state characterized by minimal functional and metabolic activities. Freedom from activity or labor.
Even if you are sleeping, your mind is still be working.
You could be thinking about the next great post you will write, a blog post series and a host of other things.
But your mind is not resting because you are thinking.
You rise the next morning only to be worse off than you were the day before.
Do you want more sleep and rest, then here is what you should do:
- Set a definite time to retire for bed and stick with it. Don't let anything come between you and your appointment with your pillow.
- Rise early. This is the time when you can do your most creative writing. During this time you will find that you are not at a loss for ways to improve your blog.
- Take breaks away from the computer and from writing. The brain can only go for so long, before it needs rest. When you need a break, take it.
- Get some fresh air. The brain and the body needs oxygen. The more you get the better you feel. So get out there and enjoy.
You can stop wondering why you can't captivate your readers the way you would like. Get you some sleep, rest and relaxation and watch things change for the better.
I'll be the first to admit that I usually get about 4-5 hours of sleep. Not good at all. This madness must stop and I'm working on it.
How many hours do you sleep do you get?
